2007 SLALOM, CLOSED BOAT * SLALOM, OPEN BOAT * WILDWATER
SLALOM, OPEN AND CLOSED BOATS: Closed boats are kayaks and decked canoes. Open boats are traditional Canadian-type canoes. Both closed and open slalom races require paddlers to maneuver through a series of gates strung on wires over the river. The paddler receives penalties for imperfect negotiation of the gates. A score is determined by combining any penalties with the time spent on the course. A well-designed course will improve paddling skills by forcing a balance of strong and weak side moves. A/B SL races are for experienced rated paddlers. C/D SL races and SLO races are for developing paddlers, and are more low key. Competitors are more than willing to help with questions.
The New England Slalom Series races are sanctioned by ACA New England and are listed on the ACANE 2007 Events
